Does the name Hack\Hackers
Connect ring any bells?
If this is the first time you
hear about this launchpad event series for news-media entrepreneurs, it is
worth to know that a whole weekend of workshops, keynotes and one-to-one mentoring
sessions was held at the Rainmaking Loft in London on February 5-7.
Around 100 selected
journalists, technologists and business people gathered to exchange ideas and
draw business plans, ready for the next step in their career.
They also attended inspirational talks held by media professionals who have created successful news and media start-ups, like Rebekah Monson, co-founder of The New Tropic, Mark Little, founder of Storyful and co-founder of Publish.org Matt McAlister.
The list of keynotes goes on and mentors include further entrepreneurs like the founder of Inkpact Charlotte Pearce and Verifeye Media co-founder John D McHugh.
It comes as no surprise that also Sarah Drinkwater, the head of Google’s Campus London, was at the Rainmaking Loft during the weekend, mentoring both journalists and technologists. In fact, the Hack\Hackers Connect event was entirely sponsored by Google News Lab.

London is just one of several
cities hosting this kind of event organised by the vibrant team of Hacks/Hackers, who was in San Francisco in January and will
soon be flying to New York, to eventually help like-minded media entrepreneurs
to meet up in Berlin next June.
As their website reads: “Hacks/Hackers
has brought more than 40,000 journalists and technologists around the world
together over the past six-years, united in a belief that we need to work
together to build the future of media. Now, we’re launching a series of global
events to sees new media adventures, grow deeper connections within the
community and attract new collaborators”.
